The Entrance
The gravelled area at the cave mouth was levelled by Poole's Cavern's first custodian, Mr Frank Redfern. Formerly, it had been blocked by a 2.5m (8ft) bank of earth and stones.
Neolithic (late Stone Age) bones, flints and pottery were found here. It indicates that this area of the cave was in use at least 5,000 years ago.
The white building to your right is known as 'The Monkey House', having once been the home to actual monkeys.
The tour of the cavern will start with a brief introduction under the entrance archway.
